NASHVILLE, Tenn. In an effort to transform their financial lives, more than 1,200 members of Blackshear Place Baptist Church have attended Financial Peace University (FPU) since the church held its first class in February 2009. FPU is a 13-week program, taught by Dave Ramsey on DVD that teaches families and individuals how to handle their money through common-sense principles and small group accountability. During the 13-weeks, FPU members were not only able to pay off thousands dollars in debt, but they were also able to save thousands of dollars and increase the giving within the church by over 40 percent in the first three months of 2009.

"We felt one of the greatest needs for our community and church was the financial health of families," says Grady Sutton, Minister of Church Programming at Blackshear Place Baptist Church. "We knew if we could get our people financially healthy then there would be a powerful release that affects marriages, children, and giving."

Each of the 13 lessons deals with a different topic that will change the way you think about money. "Life altering changes can be made in your finances even if you're already debt free and think you know a thing or two about money," comments Hope Smyley, a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church. "FPU has put feet to our wishes and made them realities."

Over 750,000 families have gone through FPU since Dave Ramsey began teaching the class in 1994. In 1997, FPU was made available on video across the country with thousands of classes around the nation today. Dave teaches such topics as how to save money, live on a budget, communicate about money, eliminate debt, find bargains, and experience the joy of giving.
