Have you ever really respected someone because they have battle scars? You know they’ve fought against the hardships in life and won. We’ve all met someone like this!
Folks with scars from their past inspire us to do better ourselves. They’ve suffered, but that gives them empathy for others. And with empathy, they’re able to meet people where they are, encourage them, and help them find a way out of their pain.
Lots of financial coaches are like that: They use their own stories for good, especially around the subject of money. In fact, the people with the most wounds often make the best financial coaches.
If you’ve found your way here, you probably have your own history with money to share. If so, think about how your story can make a difference to someone else. As a financial coach, you can make that happen.
A Financial Coach Isn’t Perfect
See, financial coaches don’t need to have a perfect money history. Their meetings don’t need to be in mahogany-paneled offices. They don’t need finance degrees and letters behind their names. A financial coaching session shouldn’t feel like a trip to the principal’s office.
No financial coach is perfect. Most are just average Joes with their own painful money histories. They just want to help other people overcome—or avoid—the same mistakes they’ve made.
More than 5 million have beaten debt this way. You can too!
That’s what’s so great about financial coaching: Anyone can do it, and a coach’s personal story is one of their most powerful tools.

Every Story Matters—Including Yours
Coaches with a painful financial past relate to clients on a heart-level. And empathy is powerful. Someone who’s made dumb decisions and survived can show others the way out of the financial pit.
And what if a coach defied the odds and actually handled money well from the get-go? Well, they represent maturity and wise stewardship. And that’s inspirational, too.
The majority of us fall somewhere in the middle. In that case, great coaching happens when we learn how to speak from pain and from logic. When you find the value in your story and learn how to communicate it, you can be a great financial coach.
