Check out these four tricks used to get you to spend more (without you knowing it).
3 Minute Read
We look forward to it all year long. We daydream about the fun trips, camps, weddings and parties. Year after year, it delivers some of our best experiences and fondest memories. It's summertime. And summer's only disappointment is how quickly it's over! Don't let it fly by without a plan. Make this the best summer ever by following Dave's top three summertime tips:
Commit to Use Cash!
The best summers are the ones that don't follow you past Labor Day. If you swipe your way to August, your credit card statement will become your summer scrapbook! That definitely casts a dark cloud over your fun in the sun.

The good news is that you can have a blast and make memories even when you pay with cash. GASP! Yep, it's true. Use EveryDollar to save and budget for your vacation. Whether you're relaxing at home or taking off on an international trip, make cash the payment of choice. The key with cash is simple: when it's gone, it's gone. It's hard to overspend when you're using Benjamins! Cash always inspires creativity, too, because you have to actually think about what you're buying.
Read, Read, Read!
Who doesn't dream about a relaxing day by the pool with a great book? Summer is a great time to catch up on that reading list that's been growing over the past few months. But don't just go for the latest best-seller on the fiction shelf—think strategically. Try picking a non-fiction book that will feed your brain, body or spirit. Dave is an avid reader, and he's got a great collection of must-read books that he's adding to constantly. Check out his list here, as well as some for the kiddos.
Give Like No One Else!
Dave always says, "Live like no else, so later you can live like no one else!" The best part of that is giving like no one else. Giving means different things to different people, which is part of the fun! For you, it might mean providing scholarship money for someone to attend Financial Peace University. For others, it could be volunteering at Vacation Bible School or babysitting a couple's kids while they go out on a date. Maybe it's even driving cross-country to visit that relative you never see.
Giving creates memories that last, because it forces you to get involved with other people. Whether you decide to give of your time, talents or money, decide how you can "give like no one else" this summer with the resources you have. The possibilities are endless!
