The #1 Lie That Will Keep You in Debt

3 Minute Read

You ever had one of those days?

You can’t seem to get ahead with your money. Maybe you got into an argument with your spouse about the budget. Maybe the AC went out right in the middle of July. And then your kid needs new glasses.

At the end of the day, when you lay your head on the pillow, you might feel beaten up and overwhelmed. You might feel like you’re never going to get to where you want to be.

But here’s the truth: You will.

The #1 lie you can tell yourself about money is that you’re never going to win with money. Or in other words, you’ll never get debt-free, never be able to afford a house, and never pay off the student loans.

But you will.

Now is a great time to refocus. If your debt snowball has had some bumps in the road lately, it’s time to get things back on track and build momentum from here on out.

Here are three things I want you to remember:

1. Your patience will pay off.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you’re not going to get out of debt overnight either. We’ve helped millions of people learn how to budget, make a plan for their money, and get out of debt—from just a few thousand dollars to millions of dollars. You can be one of them. It will just take time. And once you pay off that final debt, I promise you’ll be so relieved you stuck with it.

2. You’re going to make mistakes.

Everyone messes up. Think about this—even my dad, Dave Ramsey, declared bankruptcy early in his career. He lost everything. But he pushed through those hard times and, because of that, he’s been able to help millions of people learn how to manage their money! When you make a money mistake (and we all do), don’t beat yourself up over it. That’s an easy way to lose motivation and feel like you’ll never get to a healthy place with your money. Follow up that mistake with a plan, like a zero-based budget, to get back on track.

3. Your sacrifices will be worth it.

You might not be able to go on vacation for a year or two, or you might have to sacrifice eating out for a while. But guess what? All of that is temporary. And those temporary sacrifices are going to set you up for long-term success. Keep your eyes on the big picture. And, remember, the best vacations are the ones that don’t follow you home!

Don’t buy into the lie that you’ll never win with money.
