There’s a Dave-ism for That . . .

3 Minute Read

Do you ever go through your day and think, Hmm, I wonder what Dave Ramsey would say about this? Well, lucky for you! After 25 years of The Dave Ramsey Show, we have a Dave-ism for just about any life situation. Some will lift you up, some will give you a swift kick in the pants, and some are just downright, sidesplittingly funny.

Sit back, relax and enjoy 10 of the best Dave-isms from the past 25 years of the show.

1. "Do things you’ve never done so that you can get things you’ve never gotten."

If you want long-term gains, you’re going to have to make sacrifices in the here and now. The payoff is worth it!

2. "It’s not over until you quit."

Never give up! Your emergency fund might be low, but your spirit isn’t. You can go on to fight another day if your priorities are in the right place.

3. "You’re the hero. You’re not the victim."

Don’t let life make you a victim—be the hero of your own story. You’re the one who got into the situation, and you’re the only one who can get yourself out of it.

4. "If people aren’t making fun of you, you’re probably not on track."

Is your brother cracking jokes because you’re eating rice and beans and having a garage sale every weekend? Take it all in stride. That’s a sign you’re going in the right direction!

Lead others to financial peace! It’s easier than you think. Learn how.

5. "Be intentional with your money. Otherwise, it’s going to leave."

Tell your money where to go! You’ll end up spending your entire paycheck and wondering where the heck it all went if you don’t have budget.

6. "Sell so much stuff the kids think they’re next."

Put your dog on eBay and the cat on Craigslist! Don’t worry, we’re kidding . . . mostly.

7. "I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired!"

You have to reach the point where you’re completely fed up with being in debt, not being able to save, and not getting ahead on your bills. When you reach that point, you’re on the path to progress.

8. "Children do what feels good. Adults devise a plan and follow it!"

Yes, that big screen TV you just impulsively bought was pretty childish. Adults create a budget, make sacrifices, and follow the plan.

9. "We don’t feel money the same way when we don’t see real money."

Cash is king! You can swipe a credit card all day and never feel like you spent a single dime. But give someone a $20 bill and watch how long it takes them to spend it. It hurts to see cash leave your wallet.

10. "Normal in America is broke and stupid."

Be weird!

For the past 25 years, quips like these have inspired people to go on to fight another day, break free from the debt weighing them down, and cling to hope through their journey. And of course, a chuckle or two along the way doesn’t hurt much either.

It’s the 25th anniversary of The Dave Ramsey Show, and we’re still in celebration mode! For more flashbacks from the past 25 years, keep watching the show through the end of September.

I Got Your Six

In my noble Hillbilly culture we like sayin’s—simple phrases that we might not even know the origin of but that tell a whole story in just a few words.

"I talked to a guy on my radio show the other day who was scared . . . He had just gotten laid off from a job he'd had for 28 years. He was making $38,000 per year and didn't see it coming."
