If you want to boost your holiday budget, there’s nothing like a side job—and the extra cash it brings in—to turbocharge your savings. And while extra income is great for the holidays, it’s also super handy in helping you reach big money goals throughout the year.
We asked Dave’s Facebook fans to share their favorite part-time jobs and threw in a few ideas of our own. These five money-makers aren’t just fun—they all have an added bonus. What’s better than earning cash and reaping extra rewards? Not much!
If you’re looking for inspiration for a side job that’s a pleasure instead of a pain, we think you’ll find something on this list that brings you joy this Christmas.
Deliver Holiday Cheer
Dave always talks about delivering pizzas to make extra money. But you don’t have to drive around with a neon sign on top of your car to bring in additional dough.

Why not try a part-time position at UPS? The shipping company is expected to deliver 630 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s two packages for every person in America! UPS plans to hire 95,000 seasonal employees this year to get the job done.
Added Bonus: You can have satisfaction knowing you played a part in bringing joy to families far and wide on Christmas morning.
Take Advantage of PTO
Most folks get time off at the holidays. So take advantage of those extra hours and rethink your PTO. With holiday shoppers out in hordes, seasonal retail jobs abound. That means you have the chance to turn your paid time off into a paid temporary opportunity.
It doesn’t have to be a forever thing. But it is a great way to boost your holiday income. The average retail worker makes more than $12 an hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Added Bonus: Many stores are known for their employee discount, which can help cut the costs of Christmas gifts. Choose a store that you normally shop at to make your dollar go even further.
Bake a Cake
If there’s anything people will pay for, it’s food! This season may be filled with joy—but it’s also filled with lots of hours in the kitchen. Got a knack for baking delicious treats? The holidays are the perfect time to cash in on your goods. Caitlin T. told us she bakes custom cakes and makes $5,000–6,000 each month!
Of course, you don’t need special skills or a secret recipe to make money with food. Mattie W. just started a meal preparation business. She buys groceries and prepares meals for busy families who want a home-cooked dinner but don’t have the time to put it all together. A recent 10-meal order netted $75 for three hours of work.
Added Bonus: Knock out your own holiday baking and meal prep at the same time. Once you have your ingredients, it doesn’t take double the work to make double the treats!

Host a Pet
Many people travel during the holidays and want to make sure their pets receive the same TLC while they’re gone. If you love animals, set up a profile on a pet-sitting website like Rover or DogVacay. Hosting a dog or cat during the holidays can be profitable and fun.
Lin H., a former accountant, now pet-sits for a living. “I left my accounting job to do something I enjoy, and I make more [money] doing it,” Lin said.
Added Bonus: You get to play with Rover or Kitty without all of the responsibilities that come with being a full-time pet owner.
Get a Head Start on Next Year’s Christmas Fund
What if you could put hundreds of dollars into next year’s Christmas budget without sacrificing holiday time or indulgences? You can! Simply spend a few minutes with an independent insurance agent, and you could end up with better home or auto coverage at a better price.
Independent insurance agents work for you—not the insurance companies—to make sure you stop overpaying for your insurance coverage. Becky L. found an independent agent through Dave’s insurance Endorsed Local Provider (ELP) program and saved $1,050 a year on her family’s auto policy.
Added Bonus: This doesn’t require more hours at work or added responsibilities. And you get to save money all year round! Is there a better benefit than that?
