Ask Dave

Deducting a Child on Taxes?

How long can you claim your children as dependents?

QUESTION:  A listener asks how long she can claim her son.

ANSWER: If you pay for more than half of his support and he’s still your child you can claim him until age 24.  Even if he earns his own income, he can still mark on his own taxes that his parents claim him as a deduction. (Norm Rollins - Tax Guy)
