A Grand In Stupid Tax

Kevin says an ex-girlfriend asked him for money to pay the IRS. Now that it's time to pay him back, she claims it was a gift. Should Kevin take her to small claims court to get the money back?

QUESTION: Kevin in Texas says an ex-girlfriend called him a few months ago and said she made mistakes on her W-4. She asked Kevin for money to help pay the IRS. Kevin agreed to help her, and now that it’s time to pay him back, she claims it was a gift. Should Kevin take her to small claims court to get the money back? Dave thinks that money is gone.

ANSWER: I don’t think you’re going to get your money back because I think the judge is going to look at the two of you and go, “He said, she said.” I think you’re wasting your time. I think you just cost yourself $1,000. No. I think you just paid $1,000 in stupid tax, my brother.
