Getting Calls About Sister's Debt?

Autumn isn't sure how her sister should handle the relentless pressure she's getting from collectors.

QUESTION: Autumn and her husband are debt free, but Autumn’s sister is about $30,000 in debt with 6 credit cards.  The companies are calling her almost every 5 minutes and have now started calling Autumn and harassing her.  How often should Autumn’s sister talk to them to clear up this situation?

ANSWER: She should only talk to them once every two weeks at the most.  She should communicate with her creditors, but her situation is not going to change enough in less than two weeks to talk to them more often than that.  And she should not let them harass her.  They are violating the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act when they call her every 5 minutes.
