Move or Set Family Boundaries?

QUESTION: David in Houston was offered a job that will mean making a move. He isn’t sure if the move is worth it. His wife wants to move, but David would like to stay where they’re at. Dave suggests this is more of a marriage issue than a job issue.
ANSWER: I don’t think this is a job change. This is a lot bigger than a job change. This is she wants to move to another area of town, and she wants to have a little bit more distance between you and your family. It’s hard to keep the grandmother away when there’s a baby. It goes with the territory.
I would read the book Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud together. Maybe if you learn to set boundaries, you can solve this instead of trying to set geographical boundaries. I don’t think this is a job-move question. I think you guys have to learn to have some fair and reasonable distance with your family. Then you can decide which job you want. I wouldn’t change jobs to run from something.
