Ask Dave

What Do You Look For In A Bank?

Jim is bank shopping and wants to know what Dave looks for when he's trying to find a new bank.

QUESTION: Jim is shopping for a new bank because his old one has high fees. What should he look for in a bank?

ANSWER: I don’t bank with anything except community banks. These are regional—at most—banks. They’re not mega banks that are so big that they lose the ability to treat you like a human being. I love local credit unions and community banks. Those are what we’re looking for because that’s where, if they go fee crazy, you can go in, sit down, and talk to the branch manager. They have the power to waive those fees.

Thank you! Your guide is on its way!
