Vehicle For My Job...Okay To Spend?

Rosa's husband spends a lot of time in his car. Should the price tag for his next one reflect that?

QUESTION: Rosa’s husband has a car with 350,000 miles on it.  He spends a lot of time in the car for his job.  Should he spend a little more on his next used car so he’ll be comfortable?

ANSWER: You can have a plan where you buy the car that’s not as expensive, continue with your gazelle-intense program, and then buy a nicer car when you’re out of debt.

However, when you’re a road warrior you’re car is going down in value quickly because you’re putting so many miles on it and living out of it.  You just need to make sure the car is reliable and comfortable.  If it’s not reliable, you’ll be going into debt to fix it all the time.  If it’s not comfortable, you’ll be piling up chiropractor bills.  You should invest a little bit when you’re living in your car, but you don’t have to spend $25,000.  You can find a comfortable, reliable car for $10,000.
