Divorce Decree

A divorce decree doesn't mean you're not responsible if the ex-spouse gets behind on the payments.

QUESTION: Jeff’s friend got divorced and her husband ended up with the truck. He never refinanced it and now is two months behind on the payments. Is she responsible?

ANSWER: The divorce decree doesn’t have the power to release her from the responsibility of paying for that. It needs to be refinanced or sold to get her name off of it. Otherwise, when her husband doesn’t pay, she does. Get it in the newspaper and try to sell it. If you don’t, it will get repossessed.
