Ask Dave

Company Car

Dave tells Jason to take the company car, not the car allowance.

QUESTION: Jason has a new job offer that could mean a $30,000 salary increase. They are offering either a company car or a car allowance, and he puts high mileage on his car. Which should he take? Company car all the way, Dave says … for these reasons.

ANSWER:  Take the company car, because you’re a road warrior. When you put high miles on a car, you destroy its value. By the time you add in gas, insurance and fees, I’d rather someone else own this thing that I’m messing up.
