Ask Dave

Keeping Doc Debt Down

A couple wants to know from Dave how to stay away from student loans while attending medical school.

QUESTION: Janna and David ask how you can stay debt free during medical school, during which time you make no money but accumulate lots of student loan debt.

ANSWER: There are MD and PhD programs in place where you work for the school while you get your MD or PhD and they pay for your school. It’s hard to get into one of these programs, but it’s easier than paying back $200,000 in school loans.
