Selling By Owner

Amy wants to by a home and try to get around using a real estate agent at all.

QUESTION: Amy wants to buy a home for sale by owner. Should they bypass a buyer’s agent to save money?

ANSWER: Typically, the seller pays the commission. You may or may not be saving money, unless you get the seller down in price by 3% or so. The seller would save the half where they didn’t list the house and the buyer would save half by not going through the agent. Be careful though; there are tons of things that go on when you buy a house. Get a title policy and a contract written and all the details worked out. Get a home inspection. That’s why I don’t recommend that process. You can lose your butt if you don’t know what you’re doing.
