Postpone The Wedding To Pay Off Debt?

Nick proposed to his girlfriend last July and still has debt. He's considering postponing to pay off debt first. Is this a good plan? Dave says no way.

QUESTION: Nick in Los Angeles proposed to his girlfriend last July and still has debt. He’s supposed to get married in October, but he’s considering postponing to pay off debt first. Is this a good plan? Dave says no way.

ANSWER: No! No, you don’t have to pay off your debt to get married. I disagree completely. As long as you’re willing to work on it together after the marriage, if we’re willing to work together and you’re on the same page, you don’t need to be debt-free to get married. Not at all.
