Have The Wedding

Shawna has saved some money for a wedding. Should she put it toward a house instead? Dave advises doing the wedding but not going crazy with it.

QUESTION: Shawna in Florida has saved some money for a wedding. Should she put it toward a house instead? Dave advises doing the wedding but not going crazy with it.

ANSWER: Well, it has to do with how much money it is versus how much money you have. You only get married once. You can buy a house anytime, so you need to do a wedding, but you don’t need to go crazy with it. Let’s pretend you make $40,000 a year and you have $10,000 saved. You probably need to get married. If you make $100,000 a year and you have $60,000 saved, shut up and get married with less of a wedding and buy a house, too. It has to do with how much money you saved versus your income and kind of think that through.

A wedding is a good thing to a degree. The only problem with weddings is that it’s like a lot of other things in our culture. People go crazy. You don’t want to go crazy and go for the crazy wedding. You want a good wedding. That’s what we want to do.
