How Much Is Too Much For A Wedding?

Paul isn't sure of what the limit is that you can responsibly spend on your wedding.

QUESTION: Paul asks how much is too much to pay for a wedding when you have debt. Dave says it’s a function of debt vs. income.

ANSWER: The national average is $28,000. If you make $100,000 a year and have $5,000 in debt, shut up and pay the debt off, then save up for the wedding. If you make $28,000 a year and have $30,000 in debt, you need to do a very minimal wedding. Anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 is reasonable there, and it will still be tight. The more debt you have in relation to your income, the smaller your wedding budget should be.
