The Big Easter Spender

QUESTION: Michelle in Asheville and her husband didn’t put enough money into their holiday budget to do Easter baskets for their children. She doesn’t know how to do Easter baskets for them without busting her budget, since she spends $75 a basket. Dave tells Michelle she’s spending too much on Easter.
ANSWER: You understand that you’re in the top 1% of Easter spenders. Nobody else does that! That’s bizarre! Get a nice little basket with some eggs and cook a ham, for crying out loud.
Let me tell you—if your 24-year-old needs counseling over an Easter basket, she’s got other issues. If he complains about a wimpy Easter basket, tell him you are trying to clean up your mess. Tell him ahead of time that the Easter bunny is on a budget this year.
Even if you just cut it in half, that would be a pretty fancy Easter basket. You could probably squeeze that out of another budget item that you and your husband agree to take it out of.
