Can A Stay-At-Home Mom Be Insured?
Sarah doesn't earn an income, but does that mean she can't qualify for disability insurance?
QUESTION: Sarah from Facebook asks if a stay-at-home mom needs disability insurance. Dave says yes, but in order to qualify for disability insurance, you have to have an earned income.
ANSWER: Yes, but you can't get it. In order to get disability insurance, you have to have an earned income. It's possible you could have an earned income if you have a business at home. You need two years of tax returns to prove that your self-employment is actually generating an earned income. But if you are simply a homemaker, no, you can't get disability insurance.
