What Does Executor Mean?

Todd gets the lowdown on what being the executor of his mother's will actually involves.

QUESTION: Todd is the youngest child of four, but he has been asked to be the executor of his mother’s will.  What does that mean?

ANSWER:
You don’t have to be a lawyer.  The executor doesn’t act as the attorney; the executor just acts on behalf of the other heirs.  You can make those decisions by gathering information from the appropriate people.

You will need to hire a probate attorney to handle the will and the assets of the deceased.  Then, as the executor, you gain control of the different assets to sell or distribute to the other heirs.
