Get Settlement in Writing?

A credit card company has offered a settlement, but won't put it in writing.

QUESTION: Todd has a $9,500 credit card balance that hasn’t been paid on for 6 months. The credit card company will settle for $6,200 but won’t give it to him in writing. Should he take it?

ANSWER: Not in a million years!  You'll call them with your $6200 check ready to go and the CC company will say, "Who cut that deal with you?  That guy doesn't work here anymore" and your settlement is bunk.  Always get it in writing.
