Dave explains how to deal with collectors who are harassing you.
QUESTION: Autumn and her husband are debt free, but Autumn’s sister is about $30,000 in debt with 6 credit cards. The companies are calling her almost every 5 minutes and have now started calling Autumn and harassing her. How often should Autumn’s sister talk to them to clear up this situation?
ANSWER: She should only talk to them once every two weeks at the most. She should communicate with her creditors, but her situation is not going to change enough in less than two weeks to talk to them more often than that. And she should not let them harass her. They are violating the Federal Fair Debt Collections Act when they call her every 5 minutes.
