QUESTION: Jason in Wichita says the company will pay for school, but he doesn’t know how to pay for the first classes since it’s a reimbursement setup. He’s considering a student loan. How would Dave handle it?

ANSWER: There’s always the car wreck. Life happens, and you don’t get to finish the class. Now you’ve got another $5,000 in debt. We save the money. We pay cash, or you talk your company into bending the rules just a little bit and just fronting you on this.

We do the same thing here. We have an education program inside of our company, and we reimburse people after they take classes. They take classes that are first approved by us, and they have to hit a certain grade level or whatever—pass the class, actually—and then we’ll step in and do the reimbursement.

I think you look at it and try to figure it out. I think it’s a good idea to further your education. I don’t have any problem with that. I would not go into debt to do it.
