Not My Loan, Leave Me Alone
Jennifer is being harassed by a collections agency about a student loan, but there's just one small problem.
QUESTION: Jennifer is being called by a college loan company, but it’s not hers. Someone with her name has a loan, and they have the names confused. The people are nice and say they’ll fix it, but never do and keep calling. What recourse does she have?
ANSWER: Tell her that if they keep calling, you’ll turn them over to the Federal Trade Commission. Get a physical address so you can send them a certified letter, return receipt requested, saying that this loan is not yours and to stop calling you. If they persist, try a sports airhorm in their ear over the phone.
