Getting Him Moving

Ashley's husband lost his job 18 months ago. They are two months behind on the $1,450 house payment. Should they try to short sale or put more effort into the photography business?

QUESTION: Ashley in Utah has a husband who lost his job 18 months ago. They have lived off her photography business, but they are not making enough. They are two months behind on the $1,450 house payment. Should they try to short sale or put more effort into the photography business? Dave thinks a third option is the best one here.

ANSWER: Your husband needs to get something going job-wise during the day and delivering pizzas at night. You can deliver pizzas five nights a week and make $1,500 a month. That will pay your house payment. If he's not willing to deliver pizzas, are you guys going to lose the house because of his pride?

I know for sure that he doesn't need to work for you, because you can't afford this guy. He's too expensive. You guys have got to sit down as a couple and decide how you will quickly, as a couple, create some income. Either that or put this house on the market today. If you're not willing to do what it takes to keep the house, then the house is gone.

If you make $30,000 at your photography business, you can continue to grow that, but he's going to have to do some temporary things and some long-term career things for you guys to keep a $1,450 house payment.
