Whatever you want
Megan asks Dave's guest host, Ramsey Personality and Certified Business Coach Christy Wright, how to give yourself vacation time when you're a business owner.
QUESTION: Megan owns a small web design company, and she isn’t sure how to give herself vacation time. Megan asks Dave’s guest host, Ramsey Personality and Certified Business Coach Christy Wright, if she should work extra to gain the vacation time, or take it out of her earned income.
ANSWER: It’s easy when you’re in business to feel there’s a right way and a wrong way for everything. Certainly, there are best practices. If you want to go on vacation, you need to communicate that — and the effect it may have on certain projects — to your clients.
The truth is it’s your business. You can do whatever you want, Megan. If you want to take a vacation day every week for the rest of your life, you can do it. It you’d rather take two weeks during the summer and travel to Europe, you can do that, too. You just need to be able to support yourself financially, produce professional results on deadline, and communicate well with your customers.
And if you’re asking, I think you need a vacation!
