Pausing The Baby Steps To Celebrate

Don has a 20-year wedding anniversary coming up. Should he pause the Baby Steps to celebrate or continue paying off the debt? Dave suggests a compromise.

QUESTION: Don on Facebook has a 20-year wedding anniversary coming up. Should he pause the Baby Steps to celebrate or continue paying off the debt? Dave suggests a compromise.

ANSWER: I would pause and celebrate medium to small and delay the big trip two years. These are milestones that we've created as human beings. Why isn't the 21st anniversary just as big as the 20th? Because we decided it wasn't. We can undecide that. If we as a couple have a goal that we are in agreement on, then we can put off and delay pleasure in order to win.

I'm big on taking those trips. I took a fabulous trip on my 20th, but we hadn't been on a trip in quite a while at that point, either. And we were debt-free at that point.
