Ask Dave

Medical Debt First?

Gordon asks if he should pay off medical debts first no matter how large they are. Dave says he should pay them off using the debt snowball.

QUESTION: Gordon on Twitter asks if he should pay off medical debts first no matter how large they are. Dave says he should pay them off using the debt snowball.

ANSWER: No. You should list your debts smallest to largest, pay minimum payments on everything but the little one, and attack the little one. Work them in that order. That’s called the debt snowball. You need to pay off the little stuff because that gives you some emotional energy to move forward and something you can do that really . . . that keeps your motor running to keep fighting to win.
