QUESTION: Juanita in Texas wants to know Dave’s take on joining a gym while still in debt. They’re thinking about joining one for $72 a month. Dave says you don’t need a gym to get in shape.

ANSWER: Get some tennis shoes and go for a walk. Cut a little length of rope and start jump-roping. I’m not against being part of a gym, but I’m confused about why you have to pay $72 a month to exercise and blame that on his health. He can go for a run or something; there are a lot of ways to get exercise.

It’s all right to think free. People went entire centuries without gyms and somehow managed to stay fit and trim. I don’t have anything against joining a gym, but I think it’s humorous that we say the only way you can get exercise is to join a gym. Do it if you want, but I want to challenge the whole mindset you have here.
