Ask Dave

Start Saving Now!

A big expense is coming up ... when should you start saving for it?

QUESTION: Listener asks if you are supposed to put major future purchases into the budget, and how far ahead of time.

ANSWER: I put it in as soon as I have to in order to know that I can do it. If you want a car in 3 years and I know it will take me that long to start saving up, start saving. But if you’re out of debt, you should be able to save up fairly quickly.

Thank you! Your guide is on its way!
