Sneaking A Buy In

When is it all right to dip into one part of the budget to have some blow money?

QUESTION: Paul and his fiancé just became debt free in October. They are still doing their budget and want to know; if something comes up that’s not an emergency, can they take something out of one part of the budget to buy something, like blow money? As long as it’s kept in perspective, Dave says.

ANSWER: The answer to that question depends on the ratios you have. If you are asking if you can pull $10,000 from your $10,000 income one month to buy a car that you can’t afford, the answer is no. If you want to pull $50 out of $10,000 to buy something, then you can.
