Giving Like No One Else
Dave discusses the earthquake in Haiti and the ability to give like no one else.
QUESTION: Dave discusses the earthquake in Haiti and the ability to give like no one else.
ANSWER: The good news is that we don’t count on the federal government. We don’t count on the United Nations to do the right thing when people are hurting. We the people do the right thing when people are hurting. There are charities and missions organizations and ministries all around America mobilizing medical care, private planes, volunteers, money, and search and rescue that has absolutely nothing to do with the UN or the federal government.
What people forget as they hate Americans all around the world is that as individuals—collectively—we give more than most of their gross domestic product. Do take the time to stop. Find an organization that’s trustworthy—some ministry or missions organization or relief organization—and give them some money right now.
If you’ve ever been to Haiti, there wasn’t much there to start with. Now, that “not much” is in a pile. It’s not like they had a lot of infrastructure to do rescues before the earthquake. This is an opportunity for you to do the right thing, and you don’t have to wait on your government to do it. If you do wait on your government to do it, it’s not going to get done. And if you wait on the UN to do it, $10 million won’t even buy the jet fuel.
You don’t have to wait on someone else to do the right thing. Isn’t that the beauty of being an American? Isn’t that the beauty of being someone who has actually done a good job with their money? You can help others and not put your family in a bind.
