I'm NOT DEAD!

Question: Stacy got divorced 6 years ago. When she remarried and applied for credit to buy a house, her TransUnion credit report said she was deceased. Where should she start to let people know that she's not dead?

Dave Ramsey's advice: Write to TransUnion with a certified letter, return receipt requested, saying you are challenging the inaccuracy on your credit report that you are dead, according to the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. They usually respond pretty quickly. The reason for the certified letter is that TransUnion has 30 days to fix the error, and the certified letter means you have proof of delivery and date. The fuse is lit at that point for them to clean this up.
