Crisis looming

Question: Geraldo is unemployed and is trying to keep up with his credit card payments. He is about to make late payments because of his situation. He needs guidance on how to handle his $60,000 debt. Dave tells Geraldo why he MUST get an income.

Dave Ramsey's advice: You don't have a debt crisis as much as a career crisis. The bad news is you can call the credit card company and they won't care. They'll start harassing you as soon as you don't pay them. It won't gain you any favors from them to try and work with them. You're not dealing with intelligent life there.

We've got to get a game plan going. Start delivering pizzas tonight and get this car sold yesterday. You have to get something moving here. You don't have a choice about not paying the credit cards right now because you don't have any money. Keep the food going and the lights on until you get a job where you are making some money. Take care of your family first and the credit cards last, regardless of what they say they'll do to you.
