You made it, now live in it!

Question: Lynn's son and his family are in rough financial trouble. They filed bankruptcy 2 years ago and she's been introducing them to Dave, but they don't listen. Last night, their car was repossessed. He's begging her for help and offering to give her everything he has. Dave tells her why she's already done her part; the rest is up to him.

Dave Ramsey's advice: These are grown people, and it's time that they take control of their lives. Tell them that you're not going to take over their lives because they are grown. Mommy does not need to pay your bills. Once you set up your budget, you come to me and show me how I can help you when you've got your act together, and I'll consider your proposal.

As far as him only having one car, I have no sympathy for him. The first date that I ever took my wife Sharon on, I told her I was going to be rich someday, and the muffler fell off right there. I say he should get out there, start his car and go to work. He made his bed, now he has to lie in it! They need to get their act together.

You need to love him enough to do this. You've showed him what to do. But don't just throw money at his stupid behavior.
