Biography

Russ Carroll was the first.

He doesn’t wear a t-shirt proclaiming this, but it’s true. Russ was Dave Ramsey’s first team member, and he represents the core of the Dave Ramsey organization. That’s like being Martha Stewart’s head chef.

As Dave’s lead financial counselor for over 17 years, Russ has counseled thousands of families about personal finance, small-business finance and financial crises. He walks people through the steps to Financial Peace and helps set them up to win with money.

Russ is a seasoned speaker who draws on decades of counseling experience to educate and entertain his audiences. He has spoken at money planning seminars and hosted Total Money Makeover LIVE! events for companies and churches. He’s also the key speaker at Dave’s Counselor Training, which is held several times per year in Brentwood, Tennessee.

In addition to speaking and counseling, Russ has 13 years of experience working with university and international students through Campus Crusade for Christ. He also spent seven years pastoring single adults and counseling adults in biblical principles of finance.

Russ is a veteran of the United States Army and has a B.A. in New Testament Studies from Azusa Pacific University. He also attended the College of Financial Planning of Denver, Colorado, and completed the Larry Burkett Christian Financial Teacher Training. He has been married for nearly 25 years to his wife, Joy, and is the proud father of 23-year-old Rebecca.
