Yours is made up of little everyday moments that come together to create lasting memories. Whether you've rewritten your story through Financial Peace University or you're simply dreaming of a new chapter, we want to hear all about it.
Whether you've rewritten your story through FPU or you're simply dreaming of a new chapter, we want to hear all about it.
After seeing the difference FPU made in my brother and sister-in-law's lives I was curious about getting my finances straightened out myself. I kept holding off until I was out of college and started settling down, though looking back I realize I never would have been "settled down" enough. As my relationship with Steve became serious my sister-in-law highly suggested taking the FPU course before getting married. She mentioned how it is the number one topic that couples fight about so we should really be aware of where each other stand. My curiosity mixed with a logical recommendation meant I was serious this time. We started taking the course about a month after getting engaged and enjoyed it so much we wanted friends to join us. We stopped attending our FPU course halfway through and restarted the course elsewhere so we could have the accountability of taking it with our friends. Repeating a few weeks was a wonderful refresher. With the course restarted, the schedule was set to end exactly 6 fays before we got married. In our eyes it was clearly a God thing. Not only was it a huge encourager for how to budget wisely for a wedding (constantly remembering that it's just one day, and money put towards our life together is much more valuable) it really became a sort of premarital counseling. So many fights were prevented by understanding who's the saver and who's the spender and how to meet in the middle. And so many financial purposes and goals were decided upon and aligned because of this course. Yes, we still butt heads when it comes to making the budget, but knowing that we're aligned with our long-term goals we find ourselves on common ground much more frequently. So how did FPU change our lives? It started our marriage off by aligning ourselves on the number one topic that leads to divorce: money. And even more importantly we are planning financially for our children before they are even alive because we want to start a legacy of financial peace. I know this material is for singles, non-singles, young, and old and we promote it to everyone but we especially to couples looking towards marriage. This changed how we understand each other and even improved how we communicate. Thank you to the Dave Ramsey team, and thank you to my brother and sister-in-law. You inspired a legacy in us, and we hope to return by inspiring a legacy in those around us. I would say that's our story, but we will make sure it doesn't end there.
