I’m president of North Star Paving and Construction in Soldotna, Alaska. We specialize in heavy highway and site work, underground utilities and paving.

I just keep persevering. To survive, you have to creatively think of alternate ways to do things. If you focus on the negative, you will miss opportunities for solutions. Most importantly, I endlessly pray and always give thanks!
Take it one step at a time and don’t get overwhelmed. Always be diligent, listen carefully, and go through the processes needed to become a great leader. It's not going to happen overnight.

I wouldn't go into debt. It's bondage. It takes away all your freedom to make choices, and it also makes you have to work longer and harder with the stress of always having the debt hanging over your head.
For me, it's truly about the people. We just use the construction business as the vehicle to serve people.
